Leading Lines L eading lines are lines that appear in a photograph that has been framed and positioned by the photographer to draw the viewer's eye towards a specific point of interest. These lines often draw the viewer's eye in a specific direction or towards a designated portion of the photograph. Vertical Lines When scanning a photo our eyes move from left to right, rather than up and down, so vertical lines work well to lead the viewer's eye upwards. When we think of growth, we think of an upwards direction. Using vertical lines to lead the eye upwards emphasizes growth and determination. Horizontal Lines A horizontal line is a straight line that runs from the left side of the frame to the right.
